We define our discipline as “the exploration of ways to more effectively deliver the power of nursing to people and utilize it in society” and “the pursuit of applying nursing perspectives and values to organizational activities.” As those dedicated to defining and advancing this discipline, we focus our research on two main areas: “research on the quality evaluation of medical and nursing care using real-world data” and “research to identify key factors and processes that enable individuals and organizations to demonstrate their strengths, develop, and become empowered.”
In the first area of research, we apply various quantitative research methods from epidemiology and econometrics to real-world medical data to improve the quality of medical and nursing care. We evaluate three key aspects of medical and nursing quality: delivery systems, delivery processes, and outcomes, while examining the impact of medical policies on patients, healthcare providers, and society.
In the second area of research, we aim to clarify the dynamics of organizations, workplaces, and individual experiences by examining them from the perspectives of individuals, organizations, and society. To achieve this, we employ both qualitative and quantitative research methods, using psychological scales and administrative data, and continuously develop new research approaches.
In addition, through the collaborative social partnership”Nursing Data Science Course,” we are committed to ongoing research promoting evidence-based policy making (EBPM) in nursing. To address the challenges in advancing EBPM in nursing, we will drive research using existing real-world data while also working to acquire, merge, process, and accumulate the datasets necessary for the nursing field. Furthermore, we will develop new systems to collect data that will support policy formation, including quality evaluation of nursing and other data that contributes to healthcare policies.
